Colog collected optical and acoustic televiewer data at five locations on top of a mountain near Idaho Springs, CO, off westbound I-70. Plans are to widen the interstate from two lanes to three to accommodate additional westbound travelers. I-70 will be reconfigured with tunnels, simplified curves, bridges and walls to improve line-of-sight and driver safety. A helicopter was needed to transport Colog’s staff and equipment to and from this location. With the use of collected televiewer data, engineers will have a better understanding of the mountain’s geophysical layout to make a safe and structurally sound tunnel at the bottom of Floyd Hill.
